(作者:Jim wang 时间:2002-03-14 23:29:30)- This is called Zobel Network. I use 100 ohms resistor and .01uF cap for my speaker. It actually works for me! I would suggest eveyone to try it on your own speakers because it may work for you at very low cost.

...the resister looks like a diode.·
(作者:Jim wang 时间:2002-03-16 06:47:42)- I can't say it will work for everyone since every system is different. Generally speaking, I do think it should work in most of cases. As I indicated in my previous message, Zobel will reduce "ringing" of high frequencies and noise level. The best way to do is to try it out on your own system. You need to let the cap and resistor broken-in before you do some serious evaluation. 12 hours playing should do it. However, in case it does't work for you, you won't loose anything since those parts are cheap.

(作者:Roy 时间:2002-03-15 11:32:25)- This setup is a Merlin VSM-SE premium finish + R/C network + Cardas Golden Reference Bi-wire cable.
It is the recommended setup by the plant. But I doubt it is not a common R/C network for you can see in the picture the Resistor is replaced with a IC (Don't know what it is, can somebody tell?)
Some background:
Merlin Music Systems developed an RC network specifically for their speaker systems. Its function is to provide outboard high frequency (above 1.6MHz) impedance compensation and filtering. Electromagnetic interference is also greatly reduced when the networks are used.·

Basically, a Zobel network is to reduce "ringing" distoration and noise which may be caused by electromagnetic interference. There are some commerical filers in the audio market. One is called Bybee and another is called Enacom. In my opinion, those so called filers are not worth to pay hundreds dallors for. My DIY verion of Zobel is exactly same as Enacom but for a lot less money, USD$5.00, while they charge Enacom for $99.00/pair. For further information, you may check http://www.mayaudio.com/Enacom.html
So far, I can't think any disadvantages but advangtages to use Zobel's on my system.·
(作者:Jim wang 时间:2002-03-15 12:22:29)- Actually, I know not only Merline uses Zobel on their speakers but also other speaker companies, such as VMP Audio.

(作者:Roy 时间:2002-03-15 12:29:47)- Do you have the parameter of the Merlin R/C network? For you DIY one, is it the 0.1u+100ohms one?
